Janss Investment Company Building
Four generations of the Janss family were integral to development in the greater Los Angeles area for most of the 20th century. Brothers Edwin Sr. and Harold Janss developed Westwood Village, a shopping, dining and entertainment district immediately south of the UCLA campus. In 1929, they commissioned the architectural firm of Allison & Allison to design the headquarters of the Janss Investment Company, the first building in the Village. The building is distinguished by its colorful terra cotta dome, ornamented in a Moorish Zigzag pattern, giving the building its nicknames of Janss Dome and Westwood Dome. The building has housed a number of diverse businesses including the Bank of America, Contempo Casuals, Wherehouse Music and currently it is the Broxton Brewery & Public House. It was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Culturual Monument in 1988.
