St. Andrew Church
St. Andrew Church was founded in 1886 and is the oldest Catholic parish in Pasadena. The current church building, the inspiration of Monsignor John McCarthy and architect Ross Montgomery, was constructed in 1927. The Romanesque church tower and facade are replicated from Santa Maria in Cosmedin, a church situated in Rome on the left bank of the Tiber River. The interior of the church is a replica of the Basilica of Santa Sabina in Rome. Following the earthquakes that occurred during the l970s and 1980s, it became apparent that costly repairs and a number of restoration projects were needed at St. Andrew Church. The Archdiocese covered some of the cost to repair earthquake damage to the Church tower and some seismic improvements within the Church. Proceeds from a popular annual “Bach to Broadway Concert” have helped fund ongoing repair and restoration.
