Heritage Walk
Since the early 1930s, Grape Day Park, Escondido’s oldest park, has been the center for community events and activities. Heritage Walk, established in the park for the nation’s Bicentennial in 1976, displays buildings from Escondido’s early days operated by the Escondido History Center. The Santa Fe Depot, one of the oldest buildings in the city. was moved to the park in 1984 and is the Center’s main museum. The railroad car beside the depot was built by the Pullman Company in the 1920s. In 1980, the Hoffman House, built in 1890, replaced another Victorian house that was lost to arson. The Center’s offices and Research Center are housed in Escondido’s first library building built in 1895. Other buildings include a replica of Bandy Blacksmith and Wagon Works and the 1901 Penner Barn.
