Equitable Building of Hollywood

Equitable Building of Hollywood

The two-tower office building on the northeast corner of Hollywood and Vine started out as the Bank of Hollywood Building when the first of two height-limit towers opened on May 28, 1929. On completion of the second adjoining tower in late 1930, the building was rechristened the Equitable Building with Citizens National Bank moving into the empty Bank of Hollywood location. It was designed by Alex Curlett in a blend of late Gothic Revival and Art Deco styles. Ownership of the building has passed through numerous hands and it has undergone restoration and reconstruction several times, most recently in 2008 when Palisades Development Group purchased the building and converted it into lofts. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument and a contributing structure of the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District on the National Register of Historic Places.
