Pomona Court

An “absolute necessity for homes” led the Fullerton Improvement Company to build the Pomona Court in 1922. Built on the model of bungalow courts that had spread throughout Southern California from Pasadena since 1909, the Pomona Court was designed by locally prominent architect Frank Benchley in the popular Craftsman style. The Pomona Court is laid out in a U-shape with two identical rows of four attached one-story bungalows and a rear two-story duplex arranged around a central courtyard. All the units are one-bedroom one-bath; the bungalows have 550 sq ft, the duplexes have 750 sq ft. The Pomona Court is the oldest and one of only five extant bungalow courts in Fullerton, one of only eight courts in Orange County. The Pomona Court, with the adjoining apartments built in 1923, is a Fullerton Local Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
