Fullerton Museum Center

A library funded with a Carnegie Foundation grant opened in Fullerton in 1907. Despite the addition of a children’s library annex in 1927, by 1938 it was decided that the community had outgrown the building. Local architect Harry Vaughn, who also designed the original Fullerton College, was hired to design a new library building. The Carnegie Library was razed and construction of the new building, funded by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), was completed on Christmas Eve of 1941. In 1973, the library moved to its current location on Commonwealth and the building was repurposed to provide space for Muse 9. Concurrent with renovations to accommodate larger exhibitions, Muse 9 was renamed the Museum Association of North Orange County and the old library took on its present name of the Fullerton Museum Center. The library is a City of Fullerton Local Landmark.
