Glen Tavern Inn, Santa Paula, Ventura County

Glen Tavern Inn

Discovery of oil, a burgeoning citrus industry and an increasing popularity for film studios transformed Santa Paula into one of the fastest growing communities in Southern California. Being without a major hotel since the disastrous Main Street Fire of 1903, a corporation of prominent local businessmen formed the Santa Paula Hotel Company and contracted with the well known Los Angeles architectural firm of Hunt and Burns to design the Glen Tavern Hotel. Designed in a combination of Craftsman (mostly inside) and English Tudor styles, the hotel was completed in 1911 and opened with 32 bedrooms, a modern kitchen and dining room, a large lobby and a writing room. In the 1920s rooms were added on the third floor (attic) increasing the number to 49. Now the Glen Tavern Inn, it is a Ventura County Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
