Nethercutt Museum
J.B. Nethercutt moved to Santa Monica in 1923 to live with his aunt, Merle Nethercutt Norman, founder of Merle Norman Cosmetics, eventually going into business with her. In 1956, he purchased two cars, a 1936 Duesenberg Convertible Roadster and a 1930 DuPont Town Car, the start of the Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar. Founded by J.B. Nethercutt in a 60,000 sq ft, 6-floor tower on his San Sylmar estate in 1971, the Collection was expanded in 2000 with the 40,000 sq ft Nethercutt Museum across the street. The centerpiece of the museum complex is the prestigious automobile collection of the Nethercutt-Richards family that contains over 250 cars, nearly all of which J.B. originally collected and owned. Other features include a collection of mechanical musical instruments, a massive Wurlitzer theatre organ, a CPR steam locomotive and 1912 Pullman private car.
