Ebell Clubhouse
The Ebell Society of Santa Ana Valley first met and organized in 1894 with 23 members. The club met in members’ houses for 30 years before they completed their building fund and constructed their own clubhouse in 1924. The building is a one-story structure that includes a meeting hall, a large auditorium, a kitchen, several small meeting rooms and an interior courtyard. It was designed in a Spanish/Mediterranean Revival style by locally prominent architect Frederick Eley who was Orange County’s first full-time, professional architect. The clubhouse originally functioned as a space for women’s education and philanthropic work. The Ebell Society still operates as a social club and philanthropic organization and rents the clubhouse as an event venue. It was added to the Santa Ana Historical Register in 1984 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
