Long Beach Venus
The Long Beach Venus is modeled on a 1767 bronze sculpture by Christophe-Gabriel Allegrain entitlad “Venus Au Bain” that is part of the Louvre Museum collection. It held a prominent position in an alcove above the marquee of Fox West Coast Theater on Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach from 1925 until the theater was demolished in 1987. The 2083-seat theater was designed by Gabriel Meyer and Phillip Holler who worked with Sid Grauman. Dedicated on March 2, 1989, tne Long Beach Venus was restored and returned to [its historical home] through the combined efforts of Stanley Cohen and Shoreline Square Associates, the Public Corporation for the Arts and the City of Long Beach.
