Grand Central Air Terminal`
The Glendale City Council allocated funds for the purchase of 33 acres near the Los Angeles River in December, 1922, establishing the Glendale Municipal Airport which opened on March 17, 1923. The Glendale Airport Association syndicate purchased the airport, renaming it Grand Central Terminal (GCAT), and hired Henry L. Gogerty to construct an air terminal along the lines of a classic railroad terminal. On February 22, 1929, the 2-story terminal with 5-story control tower opened to much fanfare. The airport ceased to be profitable and was closed in 1959. The property was purchased by the Walt Disney Company in 1997 as a part of its Grand Central Creative Campus (GC3). The terminal was rehabilitated to its original state and repurposed for private offices and a museum, reopening in 2015. GCAT is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
