The Boulevard Sign, San Diego, San Diego County

The Boulevard Sign

Neon signs were prevalent during the 1940s-60s along El Cajon Boulevard. In 1989, The Boulevard sign in the University Heights area of San Diego was erected to return the glory of neon. City officials and local business leaders saw the sign as a major new landmark which would promote the Boulevard as a destination, the Gateway to San Diego’s Mid-City, and encourage further community revitalization efforts.
