Ford Building
The California Pacific International Exposition was held in Balboa Park in San Diego to promote the city and support its economy. It opened on May 29, 1935, and closed on November 11. It reopened on February 12, 1936, due to its financial and attendance success, closing on September 9, 1936. Ford Motor Company poured resources into the exposition, constructing the fair’s largest and most popular exhibition. It was designed by legendary industrial engineer Walter Dorwin Teague, Sr., in a Moderne style with industrial overtones. After the exposition, it was used as a school, by the City Parks and Recreation Department, the Starlight Opera and for cultural activities. Renovation was undertaken after it was added to the National Register in 1973. The San Diego Aerospace Museum moved in in May 1979 after a fire destroyed its previous home in Balboa Park.
