Home Savings and Loan
Like two of the other former Home Savings branches in Orange County, renditions of Millard Sheets’ well-known mausoleum style of modernism, the Chase Bank in Santa Ana sits on a diagonal at the street corner of North Main and Washington. The mosaic above the main entrance depicts Balboa Bay, agriculture, industry, home building and families as parts of Santa Ana’s history. Opening in early November 1966 with a week-long special preview in late October for Orange County civic and business leaders, the 17,500-square-foot building has two stories and a basement with a central hall, and two flanking halls. A stained glass piece from the Sheets studio featuring children playing graces the (back) parking lot entrance. Two sculptures of a man with a boy and a woman with a baby girl by sculptor Renzo Fenci flank the street-entrance mosaic.
