Paul Revere Williams Residence
With a client list that reads like a who’s who of Hollywood history, Paul Revere Williams developed an incredible portfolio of nearly 3,000 buildings in his 50+ year career. Known as the “architect to the stars,” he worked in many exclusive Los Angeles neighborhoods in which he could not live before racially restrictive covenants were outlawed in 1948. In 1951-52, he designed and built this house for himself and his wife, Della, in the West Adams District. Williams, remarking about the design of his house, said “I wanted it to be a place to live in first and foremost, not just something to show off.” Designed in the International style, the 4,440 square foot house has four bedrooms, five baths and a guesthouse. It reflected his belief in the future of residential architecture in Los Angeles. It is a designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.
