Community Bible Church
The oldest standing house of worship in the original city of Huntington Beach is downtown at Sixth and Orange. The Huntington Beach Company donated $250 to build the Huntington Beach Baptist Church, but Lewis Preston was the real force behind its construction. William Newman donated the original glass window. The church was dedicated in 1906, three years before the incorporation of the city. In the late 1940s, a school was built next to the sanctuary to cover all levels from kindergarten to 12th grade. The Baptists relocated to Fountain Valley in 1972, taking the bell, but not the stained glass window, with them. The current occupant, the Community Bible Church, renovated the building and landscaping. There have been efforts to add the building to the National Register of Historic Places.
