Carousel House
The Carousel House located in Chase Palm Park just off Cabrillo Blvd. in Santa Barbara was built in 1997-8 to house an historic 1916 Herschell Three-Abreast Carousel owned by Historic Carousels Inc. The carousel was one of three machines produced by the Allan Herschell Factory in the 1915-1917 time frame. The company broke its 20-year lease with the city in 2017 due to money-losing winter revenues. The facility closed after a weekend carnival in early December, 2017, with free rides for everyone. The City made over the building into an open space, with a greenhouse-like industrial feel, for all types of events. It has become a popular wedding venue. The hand-carved horses and colorful carriages moved to an historic carousel museum in Hood River, OR, as the first piece in its collection.
