Julian Medical Building
The Julian Medical Building at the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood is considered an architectural masterpiece combining elements of the Art Deco and Streamline Moderne styles. It was designed in 1933 by the firm of Morgan, Walls and Clements whose work included the Pig ‘N Whistle Restaurant, the Leimert Theatre and the Samson Tyre and Rubber Company (now the Citadel). From the beginning, medical offices have occupied the second floor. An Owl Drug store originally occupied the first floor, giving the building its alternate name of the Owl Drug Company Building. It is a contributor to the Hollywood Boulevard Commercial and Entertainment District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Cahuenga Building, that was modeled on it, premiered in Disney California Adventure Park’s Hollywood Land when it opened in 2001.
