Valley Municipal Building
Architect Peter K. Schaborum designed the Art Deco-Moderne style Valley Municipal Building in Van Nuys as a miniature of Los Angeles City Hall in late 1931. The Herbert M. Baruch Corporation worked through the second half of 1932 to complete construction. Formal dedication ceremonies on February 22, 1933, Washington’s Birthday, were attended by thousands. Originally, it housed a Hospital in one wing and the Police Department and Municipal Court, complete with jail, in the other. The hospital and police station were relocated in the late 50s/early 60s and the building was remodeled to house other City offices. Damage from the Sylmar quake in 1971 and Northridge quake in 1994 led to extensive renovation and restoration completed in 2005. It was designated a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument in 1968.Valley Municipal Building, Van Nuys
