Walt Disney Concert Hall
Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles is an internationally recognized architectural landmark and one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world. Lillian Disney made an initial gift of $50 million in 1987 to build a performance venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney’s devotion to the arts and to the city. The 3.6-acre complex, designed by architect Frank Gehry, includes, in addition to the concert hall, a bookstore, a cafe and several bars, the Ira Gershwin Gallery, two small outdoor amphitheaters and The Blue Ribbon Garden. The acoustics of the concert hall were designed by Minoru Nagata and completed by his assistant and protege, Yasuhisa Toyota. The fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center, opened on October 24, 2003, is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
