Plaza Fountain
The Plaza at the intersection of Glassell and Chapman was developed into a circular park in 1886. The Orange Women’s Christian Temperance Union raised funds to plant grass, flowers, shrubs and trees between walkways and bring in a three-tier, iron fountain from New York. In 1937, a new electric fountain was installed and the old one was moved to Hart Park and from there into storage. It was restored and placed in front of the City Council chambers in 1981. By 2002, the fountain had become fragile and was considered dangerous, so was dismantled and moved back into storage. The Old Towne Preservation Association led a fundraising campaign to restore the fountain; Mike Vogelvang undertook its restoration and reassembly. It was incorporated into the plans for the new Orange Main Public Library and History Center which opened in 2007.
