Heritage House

In 1972, the City of Fullerton planned to demolish an old house in the heart of the city for a street-widening project. The Eastlake Victorian style house was built in 1874 by Dr. George Cook Clark, who gave it to his wife, Edith, as a wedding gift. Clark was Orange County’s first coroner and was among the first Fullerton city council members. The house was one of the oldest surviving homes constructed in the original townsite of Fullerton. Its relocation was incorporated into plans to transform a diseased orange grove at the northern end of the California State College, Fullerton, campus into a 26-acre arboretum with learning opportunities and resources fostering plant conservation, botanical research and horticulture. It has been restored and furnished as a doctor’s home and office of the 1890s, offering visitors a glimpse of life in Fullerton’s early days.
