Glendale Transportation Center
The Glendale Southern Pacific Railroad Depot was designed by the San Francisco architectural firm of MacDonald and Couchot in the California Churrigueresque style of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture. It was built in 1923 to replace an older depot dating from 1883. Because of the depot’s proximity to the film industry in Los Angeles and Hollywood, many movies have been shot there, most notably “Double Indemnity” in 1944. The city bought the depot from Southern Pacific in 1989 and acquired adjacent properties to create an intermodal center. The depot has undergone minor remodels in 1943, 1954 and restored in 1999 and 2012. The building is a city landmark and is listed on the National Register for Historic Places.
