Abraham Lincoln Elementary School
Following the destruction caused by the 1925 Santa Barbara and 1933 Long Beach earthquakes, Pomona adopted a new, seismically robust design for the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. It was designed in the Mission/Spanish Revival style by Pasadena architect Sylvanus Marston of Marston and Maybury and built by the construction firm of O. H. Hauser in 1936 on the site of an earlier school. The building was composed of reinforced concrete and had a one-story plan to minimize loss of life due to collapse. It also contained numerous innovative elements such as an internal telephone system. It is one of the oldest and the only Spanish Colonial Revival school building remaining in Pomona. It is considered a Pomona Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
