Union 76 Service Station

The Union 76 station at the corner of Crescent Drive and Little Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills is a true icon of Mid-Century Modernism. It is recognized everywhere as one of the highest examples of Googie architecture in the world. It was designed by architect Gin Wong of Pereira and Associates for Unocal in 1960 to complement the Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). ARCO, however, won the contract for the LAX station. So Unocal decided to replace the aging station in Beverly Hills using Wong’s design. Jack Colker’s 76 Station, as it was known locally, was completed in 1965. The station was given landmark status by the Beverly Hill City Council in May 2018.
