Washington Building
Though only two stories high, the Washington Building holds prominence in downtown Culver City as one of two flatiron-shaped buildings at the intersection of Washington and Culver Boulevards. The other is the Culver Hotel across the street. It was commissioned by Charles Lindblade, a real estate developer and business associate of city founder Harry Culver. Construction of the building commonly known as the Flatiron Building was completed in 1928. It was designed by Arthur D. Scholtz and Orville L. Clark in the “Builder’s” Beaux Arts style, a “naive and non-academic expression of French Neo Classicism.” Over time, the building provided space for the City’s Post Office, a dentist, an attorney, a real estate office, an insurance company, a draft office and the MGM Fan Club. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
