Pomona YMCA Building
In early 1919, local builder D. C. Crookshank called together a small group of men and said, “Men, now is the time to build a YMCA in Pomona. The war is over, and let us build this as a memorial to the World War veterans.” Architect Robert Hall Orr designed the 50,000 square foot, three-story building in the Georgian Revival style. Construction began in 1920 and the building was dedicated on April 18, 1922. The YMCA served the men, women and children of the community until 2012. It has been purchased by Raymond Adamyk, president of Spectra Co., a Pomona-based firm specializing in the restoration and preservation of historic buildings. Spectra Co. will share its new HQ, in a mixed use space, with residential studios for artists, office space for non-profits and a coffee shop. This YMCA is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
