Lupe Combs House
The Lupe Combs House in the Los Rios Historic District of San Juan Capistrano was built in 1878 in Forester City (near San Onofre). It was moved to San Juan Capistrano in 1882. It gets its name from Jack Combs, an early town constable, who lived there. The building behind housed weekend prisoners during Constable Combs’ tenure. It has served as a general store, candy store, post office and, most recently, a cafe and gift shop in its time. While no public notices are available online, it appears that the Hummingbird Cafe did not survive pandemic closures. The house is a contributing structure of the Los Rios Historic District listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
