Palm Springs City Hall
Palm Springs City Hall stands as an important example of mid century modern civic architecture. Young, modernist architects were drawn to Palm Springs, inspired by its light, landscape and climate. They transformed the city into a mid-century modern architectural landscape. Albert Frey was one of the first to inspire this transformation and soon became the father of desert modernism and the first choice to design a new city hall. Built in 1957, Frey used concrete and industrial materials in his design to create a flow with the environment, the most iconic feature of which is the overhang above the entrance, open to the sky, implying transparency and openness of government. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
