Shrine Auditorium

The Shrine Auditorium and its adjoining Shrine Expo Center in Los Angeles were designed by architects John C. Austin and Abram M. Edelman with interiors by noted theatre architect G. Albert Lansburgh in a Moorish Revival style. They were built in 1926 by The Al Malaikah Shriners to replace their original 1906 auditorium that burned down in 1920. In 2002, the Auditorium underwent a rehabilitation to upgrade the auditorium’s stage lighting and rigging systems among many improvements and additions. Seating just over 6,300, it remains one of the largest venues in the country and is the largest theatre in Los Angeles. The Shrine has hosted the Grammys, the Emmy and Academy Awards, concerts, ballets, film festivals and theatrical performances. It is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monuent and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
