Alexander Residence
The Alexander Residence was built for world renowned psychoanalyst Dr. Franz Alexander and his wife, artist Anita Venier Alexander, in the Little Tuscany neighborhood of Palm Springs in 1956. The mid-century modern home was designed by the up-and-coming local architect, Walter S. White. The design fully incorporates the structure with the surrounding terrain and environment and allows it to command a sweeping view of Coachella Valley. It was built during what is said to be the heyday of “Palm Springs Modernism,” when a group of talented architects and designers, including White, created “what many consider the largest and finest concentration of mid-20th century Modern architecture in the United States.” The house is a Class 1 Historic Resource of Palm Springs and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
