Egan House
In 1883, Richard Egan hired William English to build his red brick Harmony Hall, a story-and-a-half Renaissance Revival style building, on Camino Capistrano. The building served as the town courthouse as well as Judge Egan’s home and office until his death in 1923. The upper floor, devastated by a fire in 1897, was restored by English in 1898. Egan enjoyed entertaining in the house, hosting balls, picnics, dinners and parties. He was a great story teller and an expert at mixing punch (Irish style, with whiskey). Over the years the house has been an office, galleria, restaurant and boutique. The Griffith family purchased Egan House in 2014 and completed its rehabilitation in 2016. It has been Ellie’s Table restaurant since. The house is a San Juan Capistrano Historic Site and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
