Coachella Valley Savings #2
The second branch built by the Coachella Valley Savings & Loan Association in Palm Springs was completed in 1961. It was designed by well known local architect E. Stewart Williams, his second for the business. The two-story mid-century modern structure features inverted arches that form columns that hold up the flat roof. The design provides an immense amount of open floor space inside, without the need for interior columns. It also provides the strength and stability needed to survive seismic events. The deep overhangs of the roof also provide protection from the desert sun. Besides being updated for an ATM and disabled access, the building is unchanged. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
