Firestone La Brea
Firestone Tire and Service Center on La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles has been in continuous operation since 1938. At the time of its opening, the nearby intersection of La Brea and Wilshire was one of the busiest in the city with 11,071 cars passing by in an eight-hour period. Firestone’s new flagship building is the sleek product of twentieth-century Machine Age design and was considered ultra modern at the time it was constructed. Designed in the Streamline Moderne (then known as “Modernistic”) style, its aerodynamic design gives the illusion of speed, precision, and efficiency, with uninterrupted horizontal lines and rounded corners. The All Season Brewing Co. brewpub currently occupies the space. The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles successfully campaigned to have it designated as a Los Angeles Historical-Cultural Monument.
