Evanston Inn
During the late-19th and early 20th centuries, Pasadena gained a nationwide reputation as a resort city. The Evanston Inn, one of the first hotels in the area, was opened by Mary Frye in 1897. Smaller and homier than the large luxury hotels like the Raymond and Hotel Green, the small, boarding house style hotel provided a quiet retreat for its many winter visitors. It was designed in a combination of Colonial Revival and Queen Anne style of architecture. Within one year the hotel expanded with an American Foursquare addition. It is the only remaining wood-frame hotel in Pasadena. It received the city’s Preservation Design Award for restoration work that began in 2013. The Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
