Octagon Barn Center
The Octagon Barn was built in 1906 as a dairy barn for William Mighell, a San Francisco ship captain. Antonio Stornetta leased the barn for his Santa Fe Dairy operation until 1917. The Pereira-Garcia dairy operation, the Home Dairy, purchased the property in 1920. A milking parlor was built to meet increasingly strict standards of sanitation in 1938. Dairy operations continued into the 1950s when small-scale dairy operations became impractical. The barn fell into disrepair and was on the verge of collapse when The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County stepped in to save it in 1997. The barn site serves as the trailhead of the city-to-sea Bob Jones Pathway and a community event venue. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
