Santa Fe Depot
This magnificent Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad Depot, sometimes referred to as Union Station, was built in time for the 1915 Panama-California International Exposition in San Diego. The station was designed by San Francisco architects Bakewell & Brown in a mix of Spanish and Mission Revival styles to harmonize with the Spanish Colonial Revival style buildings of the Exposition. It is an active transportation center with access to several train and trolley lines in the heart of downtown near the cruise ship piers and other bayside attractions. The station anchors the larger Santa Fe Place, the 15 acres around the building being developed as a new mixed-use quarter. It is a San Diego Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
