Esslinger Building
The Esslinger Building in San Juan Capistrano was designed by Dr. Paul Esslinger. The medical building was constructed in 1938-39 using poured-in-place concrete and is one of the best examples of Streamline Moderne architecture in Orange County. A two-car garage with an upstairs apartment is in the rear of the property, detached as a structure but attached to the front office building by a flat roof connecting the two buildings. A patio area located behind the main building and garage is completely walled in. One of the most advanced medical practices of the time with eye-ear-nose treatments, operations, diathermy, X-rays, lab work and dental service occupied its 23 rooms. The Griffith family purchased the building in 2002 and completed its rehabilitation in 2003. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
