Amerige Bros. Real Estate
George and Edward Amerige moved from Massachusetts to California in 1886. On a vacation in Westminster in 1887, the brothers heard that George Fullerton of Pacific Land and Improvement had been sent west to look for land for the California Central Railroad, a subsidiary of Santa Fe, north of Anaheim. They liquidated their holdings, opened a real estate office and arranged to buy 430 acres of land. They offered Santa Fe, through Fullerton, free right-of-way and half interest in the land if the railroad survey were altered to include the proposed town site. On July 5, 1887, Edward Amerige drove a stake into a field at what is now the corner of Harbor Boulevard and Commonwealth Avenue, and the town of Fullerton was born. The community voted to name the town in honor of its benefactor, George Fullerton. It is a City of Fullerton Local Landmark.
