Mother Colony House
The Mother Colony House, the oldest remaining wood-framed building in Orange County, was built by George Hansen in 1857 for his own home and office. Hansen, a Los Angeles surveyor, was hired as the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Vineyard Society, a group of fifty German colonists who joined together to establish the town of Anaheim or “home by the Santa Ana River”. The Anaheim Public Library provides docent-led tours of this and the neighboring Woelke-Stoffel house. It is a California State Historical Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
