Huntington Beach Central Library and Park
Huntington Beach Central Library and Cultural Center opened in April 1975. The original building, designed by the father and son team of Richard and Dion Neutra, was expanded in 1994 with the addition of a childrens’ wing with its own story time theater, a 319-seat state-of-the-art theater and seven meeting rooms. Its modernist design, from its glass walls to its spiraling walkway in the atrium, seems to have set the standard of contemporary designs that followed. The surrounding 350 acre Central Park includes a 1 mile walking trail, pond, an amphitheater for summer concerts and the Secret Garden, planted with plants and trees friendly to birds, butterflies and pollinators.
