Ridge Route Tunnels, Lake Forest, Orange County

Ridge Route Tunnels

The property and responsibility of a local HOA, the Ridge Route Tunnels in Lake Forest pass under Amtrak/Metrolink tracks. The runoff tunnel was built in 1942, the two vehicle tunnels in the mid-1960s and the pedestrian tunnel opened in 1999. Because the train tracks were there first, the vehicle tunnels could not be made taller than 91″ – much to the consternation of countless truck drivers.
