Crystal Cathedral

Over 10,000 panes of glass went into the Philip Johnson/John Burgee Architects design of the Crystal Cathedral (now Christ Cathedral) in Garden Grove. Preceded by the Tower of Hope, built in 1968, and followed by the Prayer Spire in 1990 and Welcome Center in 2002, on completion of the 78,397-square-foot edifice seating 3,000 in 1981, it was a bold statement of the thriving evangelical community in Orange County that has become known internationally.
