The Arches

The Arches, found along Bluff Top Trail in Dana Point, are all that’s left of the foundation of the Dana Point Inn. The venture was undertaken by Sydney H. Woodruff who had been in the syndicate that developed “Hollywoodland.” In 1926, he bought out the San Juan Point Corporation that had formed to develop the area around the bay. He improved the roads, giving them their Lantern names, and built about 40 spec and show homes. Construction of the inn started in early 1930, but the reverberations of the stock market crash the year before soon brought construction to a halt. Most of what had been built was removed in the 1980s, but The Arches were preserved by the newly formed Dana Point Historical Society.
