Beach Center Station at Main and Olive in downtown Huntington Beach opened in 1935 with banners, speeches and music. It was designed by Louis A. Simon and built by L.F. Dow of Los Angeles as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project.

The cornerstone of St. Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo was laid on July 1, 1913. The mission-style chapel was dedicated by the Bishop at a ceremony on July 4, 1914, attended by most of the townspeople coming in flag-draped cars.

Stearns Wharf is Santa Barbara’s Number 1 attraction. Completed in 1872, it became the longest deep-water pier between Los Angeles and San Francisco, a key contributor to coastal commerce. It was named for its builder, John P. Stearns.

Geneva Presbyterian Church was one of many congregations to form at Leisure World (now Laguna Woods) in 1965. They hired noted architect William Pereira to design their sanctuary, apparently the only church he designed.

The 2-story Queen Anne style Camarillo Ranch House was built in 1892 by Adolfo Camarillo, known as “the last Spanish don.” He was one of the most successful ranchers, largest landowners and influential citizens in Ventura County history.

The “Old Government Reservation” next to San Pedro Bay became property of the U.S. War Department in 1888. In 1914 the property was named Fort MacArthur in honor of Civil War Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Gen. Arthur MacArthur.
